'Pier worked on our dairy farm for 6-8 weeks before moving north. He was doing general farmhand work, milking and driving tractors. It was his first time on a dairy farm so his skills developed while he was with us but he was really good. He had driven machinery before so I was never nervous with him on the tractor. He had a good nature with with animals. He's a nice guy. Reliable and hard working. He's not backwards in coming forwards and would discuss his pay and conditions with me but not in an aggressive or argumentative way, '

'Will was here about a year ago for a few months, when it was wet season up north. Before we start there is one thing I would like to say, he is probably the only bloke that has ever worked here that I would re-eomply, who-ever gets him will be bloody happy. We have sheep and cattle and do some farming, while Will was here he did a bit of everything. He was 18 at the time, very knowledgeable, from a hard working family, competent machinery operator – he was driving GPS tractors for us. His stock handling skills are great, he did some shearing while he was here too. He was everything I was looking for in a worker. If anyone wants to know any other more specific details I’m more than happy to help. I would absolutely love to have Will back. '

'Alyeesha was her last harvest for about eight weeks from November to Jan. Harvest 8 weeks. She was working at one of our sites handling grain, operating storages, unloading road trucks, weigh bridging and sampling. She was working at heights and was fine with that. Her punctuality was awesome, she didn’t mind getting into it and would always be asking if there is anything she could do. Her communication we had no problems with, we all use radios and she was always loud and clear and followed procedure. She’s a great girl, I hope she comes back again! '

'Neil was with us 15 years ago for two seasons. Operating machinery, he was very competent back in the day. He was only 18-19 at the time. He has been working on his family farm. Comes from a good family, he put the hours in and did as he was told. Good kid at the time and I’m sure he is a good bloke today. It’s hard when you have been on your family farm for 15 odd years when it comes to referencing and things, I guess it’s just trusting when people tell you he’s a good bloke.'

    Information

I am an Agricultural Engineer from Córdoba, Argentina. I plan to spend around 9 months during 2019 working in Australia, and I am therefore seeking for a job. To start with, I graduated in December 2016 as an Agricultural Engineer (equivalent to Agronomist) and since then I have worked for two different companies. I worked from April 2017 to March 2018 for the Catholic University of Cordoba (the University I graduated from) as a Resident of Agricultural Establishments. This Institution owns around 4000 hectares of arable land on which it performs extensive cropping; and 3500 hectares of grazing land where it runs a 5-breed seedstock operation. As a resident, I performed the everyday tasks of a mixed operation, such as facilities maintenance and repair, animal feeding, husbandry, vaccination, castration and general care. Furthermore, I also performed more specific tasks such as crop scouting, pesticide prescription and spraying, seeding and harvest control and campaing planning among others. In May 2018 I started working at Tecnocampo S.A., a farming company owned by my family, as Technical Responsible of Production. In that position, I was responsible for all the processes and tasks required for extensive crop production (corn, soybeans, wheat, chickpeas, beans among others) in certain farms (around 2000 hectares). I was in charge of campaing planning, seeding, crop scouting, pesticide prescription, harvest control, soil sampling, analysis and fertilizer prescription and logistics. I also designed and conducted field trials and processed GIS information and statistics (for example, yield maps). It is mainly dryland but I had around 110 hectares of chickpeas under central pivot irrigation last winter. Our summer crops are corn (regular, popcorn, flint corn); different beans (mung, navy, black, LRK, DRK) and soybeans. In the winter we produce mainly chickpeas for export, and also some wheat. In our area, we get most of the rain during the summer and none during the winter, so corn and soybeans are our main crops as well as chickpeas. The company farms around 50.000 hectares around the country and runs an Aberdeen Angus seedstock operation. I am able to work outdoors as well as in the office. As regards my personality, I am a proactive person who is always looking forward to solving the next problem. I like to put thought to everything I do. I love to work in teams, discussing every decision and supporting each other. I consider myself a kind, tranquil and respectful person. Finally, I enjoy very much working outdoors on the field. My goal in Australia is to spend some time abroad, learning about how farming is performed and applying my knowledge from Argentina in the Australian environment.

'Jess worked for me over spring summer 2018-19. We are a contracting team, she would drive escort vehicles and tractors. She is a very competent operator, picks thins up really quickly and is switched on. Her communication skills were great and she was always on time and reliable, absolutely. She worked south of Alice Springs there for a while, she is a country girl, picks things up and isn’t afraid to have a go. In fact if she is looking for work I want her back, would definitely employ her again. I definitely recommend Jess.'

    Information

I grew up on a large, remote station an hour south of Cobar in Western New South Wales and am passionate about our agricultural industry. This has allowed me to harness and enhance key agricultural skills such as low stress livestock management, grazing practices, correct use of farm equipment and machinery as well as gain a positive grounding. I have also learnt to adapt to and appreciate the need for long days and the value of work. I have worked with goats, White Dorpers (both a stud and commercial operation) and a mix of cattle breeds. I love working in teams but can also be independent. My machinery skills are not as extensive as my livestock capabilities but I am keen to learn and improve. I am able to help out with both household and farm duties. I am also able to bring my own motorbike and dog if required or suitable to work/ living conditions.

'Emily did work experience with me through the school, April last year. She was fantastic. We have an AI and ET business, I actually AI’d some cattle for her parents last year, she was helping and rang me after asking if she could do some work experience with me. She is a really nice girl, she picked things up really quickly and was really keen to learn. She is very practical thinker, especially with livestock, I was really impressed. I gave her a go at Ai and preg testing and she went well. She showed real, genuine interest which is rare, her real strength is communication. She was always ready to go, always keen and looking for the next job. I would have no problems recommending her, which I usually do with other people. Emily is great, she is really switched on. '
