    Information

I am Estonian backpacker who grew up in a small town where agriculture is commonly practiced. As a teenager, I already helped local farmers with different tasks to earn extra money and have liked countryside and animals ever since. I have worked with front end loader and also operating machines with GNSS(GPS) devices(grader, excavator and buldozer). I have worked as a GNSS(GPS) Technician and land surveyor in Estonia. I'm familiar with Trimble, Leica and Topcon devices. I'm hard working and precise. Long hours and manual labor(lifting heavy things) are not a problem for me.

    Information

To Whom It May Concern, My name is Jake Cunningham and I am a 21-year-old Ski and Snowboard instructor currently living in Japan working in the Hokkaido’s largest ski area, Niseko. I would like to express my interest in a farming position. I am currently a travelling Ski and Snowboard Instructor, having completed five ski seasons, while working nights and landscaping to fill in the gaps and fund my travels. Upon finishing my contract in Japan, I will be back in Australia in April and hoping to participate in seeding season! I am no stranger to hard work; I have worked long hours both instructing and landscaping in extremely cold and hot conditions, and have held down 2 jobs since I was 18. I strive to be the hardest working person in the room, and the most focused (rather than being distracted on my phone!). My average week consists of 7 hours outdoors teaching skiing or snowboarding 6 days a week and then working in a kitchen 4 nights a week till approximately 12 at night. Not only do these jobs require immense physical strength, but mental strength and endurance as well. When I am not in a ski town I work in Melbourne Landscaping for myself or sub-contracting for other businesses. Through many jobs I’ve gained countless hours of experience in manual labour, working outdoors, operating light and heavy machinery. I have completed countless landscaping and renovation projects, giving me skills with a wide range of tools. I also like completing personal projects, having rebuilt the entire engine and interior in my Toyota 4Runner when I was 18. My 4WD experience has included maintenance and repairs, and my recent motorcycle trip from Canada to Mexico has also given me skills with bike and boat maintenance. Though I am new to the farming industry, I believe my skills in horticulture and landscaping would translate well to seeding and machinery operation. My outdoor experience in all aspects has given me a good sense of direction and spatial awareness, necessary for adapting to new environments in farming. I am reliable, punctual, and self sufficient, taking initiative to fill in gaps and do what needs to be done in my boss’s interests. My strength, endurance, and calm focused demeanour would certainly be an asset out in the field. I am driven to work hard in any environment to keep gaining skills in another outdoor industry like farming. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing what I can contribute to your operation. Yours sincerely, Jake Cunningham

' Jake has done a few bouts with me, about a year in total broken up in bits and pieces. He’s awesome – catches on to things quickly. Good with machinery, mechanically minded. Happy to leave him on site alone and know that he will get the job done. Punctual & reliable – no problems there. Pretty quiet, not in a bad way – he just works. I call him the Energiser Bunny! '

    Information

Hi, I’m a 39yo male that lives in western Sydney. My main occupation over 20yrs has been excavator/bobcat operations until I recently started my own business DK Mowing & Landscape Maintenance. The business has been operating since December 2018. I live with my fiancée Kristy and she works full time as a manager at Ausco, she actually doesn’t know I’m doing this. During my years of operations I took a break and decided to do my cert 3 in Ag. After completing my cert 3 I started my cert 4 by correspondence but at around half way through I stopped as I didn’t have the time to do it. I continued working on a farm down in the southern Riverina for another 5yrs. While I did my cert 3 the farm had no livestock, no pastures, irrigation, ect only the perimeter fencing that’s it. My main roll was to take over after doing my cert 3 with some guidance from the teacher and turn it into a fully functioning rotational grazing setup to breed and sell prime lambs. The main paddock was only 300 acres (120 ha) so nothing to extravagant but whether it be 12,000 ha or 100ha it would have just involved more rotational paddocks with more livestock on a much bigger scale. Anyway pretty much everything we needed I either fabricated or it was bought and I set out to design it such as sheep yards, race, weigh station, holding yards, fencing, gates posts and stays, main water supply to all troughs, stock route, ect ect, I looked after cropping, all pastures which was mainly lucerne, and got in sub contractors to spray and sow. I also worked the farm as a zero till which suited a modern air seeder. Our sheep were composite ewes and rams white Suffolk’s. We also turned out some first crosses also. Our main crops were canola, wheat, barley. It was also my job to estimate yield, treat pests and diseases, soil tests, ect. So the reason I’m doing this is because I really miss the land. I actually feel like that’s where I belong. The reason I didn’t continue on the land was the income difference between operating in Sydney and working for someone on the land. I’m really looking for something where I could work 2 weeks on 1 week off or even if there were a second living quarters just stay there. So preferably I’d like to work on a prime lamb facility where I would be in my element. Cheers, Regards, Dave.

'David was with us for roughly a couple of years, he left at the end of December. We have a Landscaping & Earthmoving business, David was in machinery operations; excavators, skidsteers, loaders – he is very good operator. He did daily maintenance on our machines too and he is all good for that. Reliable & Punctual, communication was fairly good. David is a good operator, I would recommend him.'

'Good young fella. Good starter. Capable of doing the job. Good operator and careful. He worked on our JD tractor doing row cropping, spreading fertiliser and worked on the laser bucket. He'd work all day and night for you. He's best with good leadership around him. If he's in good company, he's fine. '

'Gus (Agustin) and Freddy (Federico) helped us over harvest, they finished up in December. They were operating John Deere equipment; 9750 harvester, were proficient with telehandlers and trucks (neither have their MC License) we run a Western Star and a manual Volvo and they were fine with both of those. They haven’t had a lot of experience with the bigger gear (don’t run as much in South America where they are from) but they picked it up really quickly. Conscientious with maintenance, always on time and turned up. Very capable young guys. I was happy to leave them unsupervised and trusted they would get the job done. They would call me if they had problems and they weren’t hard on gear. I offered for them to stay and would happily have them for longer, they are looking to broaden their experience though which I totally understand. Would definitely recommend them.'

My aim this year is to obtain a range of experience and exposures to different farming practices and operations while on a planned 2 year working holiday around Australia. The 10,000 acre grazing and cropping, family owed property in the Amelup/Borden region of WA is well managed by my father, but I feel that experience elsewhere in the state and country would greatly benefit myself and business and help keep our methods and approach both modern and profitable.

'Jaxon came home at 16 been on the farm since. Very good mechanic, self taught and very competent. Can drive all machinery – very experience and good operator. He has had limited experience with the boom spray (tractor pulled) – has just started to pick it up in the last 3-4 years, he can spray but not that confident. Looking to develop his skills and seek experience. Sheep, great with handling livestock. He is starting to make decisions with me now and picks up on small details in our stock. Very experienced. Would not have a problem with him. Willing to have a go. Very honest, if he has made a mistake he will tell you. Quiet boy, he can work alone. Good communication skills. Very aware of communication. Great work ethic. Looking for a family farm that are switched on operators opposed to a corporate company. '
